Sustainable Integrated Farming System
In Jharkhand, people are under livelihood stress. Climatic change conditions are leading to frequent drought and poor access to forest, water and other natural resources. The subsistence farming is no more resilient and intensive farming is out of capacity of small farmers due to increasing cost of inputs.
Sustainable Integrated Farming System (SIFS) is changing the lives of small farmers in Devipur block of Deoghar. SIFS approach integrates crops, livestock, aquaculture, birds, trees and bio-digesters in such a manner that the waste of one sub-system is used as input to other subsystem. Farmers work out their farm designs to integrated these resources and minimizing the external inputs, that makes farming viable and profitable for the poor.
